Coaching Super Series '22 -Session #4 "Fitness, Nutrition, & Drills" with Suzanne Birt & Michelle McQuaid , April 20th : 4pm-5pm


World Champion and Scottie Contender Susanne Birt and Sweeping Sensation Michelle McQuaid have an on and off session covering fitness, nutrition, and drills!

On Wednesday , April 20th the forth session of the “Coaching Super Series” will be for our junior curlers and will include both on-ice and off-ice components. During the off-ice component, Suzanne and Michelle will be discussing proper nutrition and fitness training to support optimum performance for curlers. Afterwards the on ice session, they will bring participants on the ice for some drills. The deadline to register for this clinic for the "Coaching Super Series" is Friday , April 15th, 2022.

Suzanne is a World Champion curler and has represented both Prince Edward Island and Canada several times during her curling career! In juniors, Suzanne won five straight PEI provincial championships. She followed up these wins with great performances at Junior Nationals, bringing home bronze medal in 1998 and a silver in 2000 and winning back-to-back gold medals in 2001 and 2002. Representing Team Canada, she won the World Junior Curling Championship in 2001 and finished third in 2002. Suzanne also represented PEI at the 1995 Canada Winter Games as a third. Her and her team brought home a silver medal from the event. Following her junior curling Suzanne began a very successful women’s career. She qualified for her first Scotties in 2003 where she skipped PEI to a 10-1 round robin record and a bronze medal. Suzanne has gone on to play in 12 additional Scotties, most recently in 2022 where her and her team finished with a 4-4 record.

Michelle McQuaid currently curls lead on Team Birt's front end (with teammate Meaghan Hughes) and is part of one of the top sweeping duos among Canada's élite curlers!! Michelle represented PEI on numerous occasions. During her junior career, she competed in the 2007 Canada Winter Games and three Junior Nationals. In her final year of juniors, Michelle and her team also competed in the PEI Scotties Playdowns where they made it to the semi-finals. She joined Team Birt during the 2013-2014 season and qualified for her first Scotties in 2015. Since 2015, Michelle has gone on to represent PEI at 6 additional Scotties playing lead for both Suzanne Birt and Robyn MacPhee. In the past four seasons, Team Birt has been very successful playing on the World Curling Tour, qualifying for the playoffs in several events. During the 2021-2022 season, they were finalists in the Oakville Fall Classic and the Oakville Labour Day Classic and won the Stu Sells 1824 Halifax Classic. They also played in the Olympic Trials Direct-Entry Event and the Olympic Pre-Trials.
